It’s late at night and you are staring at your computer monitor wondering if indeed you can make money doing internet marketing. It seems like it was a lifetime ago that I was doing that very thing.
I failed so many times trying to figure out a way to make money without having to get a job that I was beginning to feel like there wasn’t going to be a light at the end of the tunnel.
To make matters worse it seemed like everywhere I clicked people online made it seem like it was easy to make money through internet marketing.
The problem I faced and it may be the same problem you face today is who do you trust to teach you what you need to know to thrive online?
Before Jumping Into Internet Marketing Know This
In the beginning it was easy to make money online without revealing to much of who you are because it was real easy to get your affiliate offers in front of people through paid advertising.
It use to be that if you built a website the people would just magically appear and buy stuff from your links.
As the saying goes: One bad apple spoils the bunch.
Unfortunately many of today’s online marketing guru’s caused the internet to become a harder place to make money with all their shortcuts to cheating the system.
I am not saying this to discourage you rather I am telling you this because you need to right information in order not to fail online. Because the statistic for success online isn’t that good.
The reality is most people fail before they even begin. In the next part of this blog post I am going to tell you the things to avoid as well as the things you are going to have to do to become successful online.
Having Your Internet Marketing Breakthrough
It’s been a known fact for many years that people love to buy stuff. They don’t like to be pressured into buying stuff but they do love to buy stuff.
Online people buy stuff for 2 reasons
- They already did their research and are ready to purchase
- They got a recommendation from someone they know, like and trust.
This means there are only 2 things you need to concern yourself with when you are thinking about going into business online.
The first part is tricky you need to sell something that people want. Notice I didn’t say need. The reason is because people need a lot of things but that isn’t enough to get a person to pull out their credit cards and start buying.
Just think about it for a moment. People need to loose weight, stop smoking etc… People might even need a new car a new home etc… None of this means they will actually do what they need to do.
People by nature are impulse buyers, if they have the money and want something they will buy it. This means if you can give people what they want and it will much easier for you to make money online.
This is really the only way to make money in internet marketing without spending a kings ransom to do it.
First I want to congratulate you for reading this far because this means that you are sincere in your decision to make money via internet marketing.
I’ll be honest with you though what you are about to read may actually turn you off to internet marketing.
First of all, if you hope to make money online you really need to accept the fact that you are going to have to use social networks, make videos and be transparent. This is all part of the process of getting people to know, like and trust you.
In fact getting people to know, like and trust you is the #1 most important thing you have to do.
The next thing you need to do is sell stuff that resonates with you. Because if you are doing something just to make money online (which btw is what most people are doing. The very same people that are failing miserably are also the ones who are trying to make money online for the sake of just making money).
Instead you need to sell stuff that you are excited about. Sell stuff that you have a good amount of knowledge on.
Often times you see people trying to sell products that they either don’t use them selves or they have no idea what the product is for they just know how much money they can make if they sell it. In either case these people never make job crushing money.
Most people start their online journey by doing affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is simply having a companies website link connected to you. When someone buys through that link you earn a commission.
For example: Amazon.com has an affiliate program. However so do most “make money online programs”. Think Network Marketing.
Either way it is all affiliate marketing and it is the easiest way to get started making money on the internet without having your own business and products.
The downside is there is always a lot of competition and in many cases what people are trying to sell is already saturated with affiliates. While getting started is easy enough actually earning a good income can be complicated.
The other way people make money is through creating unique online personalities and selling their own products. (Think Creating Your Own Brand)
Sometimes you don’t have to sell anything at all
For example: Think Youtube channel. It’s real easy to earn money through contextual advertising if you have an interesting channel. You don’t have to sell anything at all and can potential earn thousands of dollars online.
If you want to win at the game of internet marketing invest time and money on your web presence.
I’ve been marketing online since 2002 and starting a blog is still the best way to get started in any niche.
Your Blog can an informal website like this one or it can be a business you created like the one I created in the martial arts niche.
I tell people that ask me that you can sell anything online you just have to know how to do it. Which really comes down to understanding 2 things
- How to get traffic online
- How to get people to know, like and trust you
Before buying any product online that teaches you to make money. See if you can contact the person selling you the material. I recommend that you only buy stuff from people that resonates with you.
Don’t buy into hype. Rather think about what you really want to accomplish and create a fail proof plan.. That starts with working and learning from the right people.
Who Are The Right People?
A good mentor, Coach, Teacher etc show up when you are truly ready to learn. For a good teacher it’s never about the money. Good teachers care about the person.
Obviously at some point money comes into play, but in the beginning it shouldn’t be about the money. A good online teacher will have a bunch of FREE resources for you to tap into to help you make decisions that are right for you.
Always ask questions before buying. If you are involved with or considering getting involved with network marketing then you need to really evaluate whom you are about to get into business with.
Making money with internet marketing is easy, only after you learn how to do it. In the beginning it’s very hard because you have to learn new things and step out of your comfort zone.
If you are willing to step out of your comfort zone and stay consistent in your action taking one day you too will look back like I have and say to yourself.
It’s easy to make money online
You are right that a few bad apples have made it harder to rank in Google. Many gurus used black hat techniques that weren’t ethical and now internet marketers today have to pay the price. I started in Oct 2012 and it was easier to rank in Google. Over the years, it has been harder and harder to do. In the past, I haven’t focused on SEO and relied on writing content that was written with users in mind. I still do that today but I have to think more and more, how to implement SEO into my plan so that I can gain followers naturally. Pinterest can be a gold mine too if done correctly.
